1. Structure and Design Recommendation

AD develops a page-layout plan and provides to the Lead Designer and Strategist for review.

-

Based on the brief, the Lead Designer develops the overall Design Concept, by showing an indicative cover, opening pages, section dividers and other key spreads. Concepts may also be presented for key content like the Value Creation Model. (NB: Sometimes this is done in two rounds.)

  • Digital-first thinking in terms of navigation structure and high-value content requirements.

One to three different concepts may be shown, including one that may stretch the client. For each one the Lead Designer explains what the design thinking is and why it works.

The Design Concept includes defining the recommended approach to grid/layout, photography, illustrations, animation, online application, folios, pull-out quotes, graphs, and charts, etc.

  • They also outline any interactive content thinking/style/approaches if they are part of the brief.

The Strategist and AD review and provide feedback on whether what has been proposed meets the client brief and can be done in the time and budget agreed.

The Strategist prepares any copy or headlines that help explain the concepts.
